Pope’s
July Intention: For Lapsed Christians:
That our brothers and sisters who have strayed
from the faith, through our prayer and witness to
the Gospel, may rediscover the merciful closeness
of the Lord and the beauty of the Christian life.
Quarr Abbey, Nr
Fishbourne, Ryde, Isle of Wight PO33 4ES Thursday 6 to
Tuesday 11 July 2017 10am to
5pm FREE ENTRY to Exhibition, Abbey and
grounds
Isle of Wight Ceramic Artist,
Andrew Dowden, will be showing a collection of unique and
distinctive handmade, hand-carved ceramics and
complementary textured wall art at the Quarr Abbey
Art Gallery.
Quarr Abbey is sited in
tranquil grounds with landscaped gardens, the tea
shop and farm shop being particularly popular with
visitors. The Gallery holds weekly exhibitions,
and is one of the main venues for exhibiting local
art on the Island, having built up a regular
following since opening in 2011. This is an
opportunity to view Andrew Dowden's work and buy
directly from the artist. A percentage of all
exhibition sales goes to the Abbey.
Ideas
and designs for Andrew's ceramic work come from
various sources including nature, machinery and
engineering, architecture, and archaeology. Andrew
was inspired to take up ceramics whilst
researching a book on Isle of Wight pottery.
'Pottery has been made on the Island since
Neolithic times,' says Andrew. 'Learning about
pottery and its history, and actually working
through the different stages of each making
process, has made me appreciate this ancient art.'
Surface texture and form are Andrew's main
interest, and textured designs have also been
incorporated into his oil-painted wall art. A
carpenter for 20 years, Andrew made the teak
frames from a 1950s sideboard.
Ceramic tile
panels, wall plaques and standing forms such as
Tumbling Squares, Standing Stones and Wheel Forms,
together with new work, will be on show. 'I
primarily make pieces for my own interest and
satisfaction,' he says, 'but it pleases me to know
that people who buy my work appreciate it
too.'
The gallery will be open from
10am-5pm each day. Admission is
free.

The
church of St Saviour-on-the-Cliff in
Shanklin is desperately trying to avoid
being returned to the dark ages if the electricity
supply fails. To escape this bleak and depressing
possibility, which could plunge them into the dim
and gloomy world of candle power, it needs to
raise funds to renew and improve the electrical
wiring. This is a major task and the church funds
were seriously depleted last year by the need to
carry out dry rot eradication work. The electrical
work cannot realistically be done on a piecemeal
basis so until they have the total funds they are
unable to make a start.
The ‘Church
Restoration Appeal’ has therefore been set up to
raise funds for this purpose and will be aided by
a concert given on Saturday July
15thby the popular
Phoenix Choir.
St
Saviours was designed by Thomas Hellyer of Ryde.
The foundation stone was laid on Ascension Day in
1867, it was consecrated in 1869 and has some
beautiful stained glass windows. The
Nativity window on the south side of the church
was designed by Christopher Whall, a leading
stained glass designer and fine examples of his
work can also be found in Canterbury and
Gloucester Cathedrals.
The 50-strong
mixed choir, in additional to some new songs this
year, will also be singing tunes from well-known
musicals and other favourites. The concert
starts at 7.45pm, admission is free with
a retiring collection. There will be a raffle and
interval refreshments.
The church
hopes that you will support this event and help it
continue to see the
light!
Dinner at The Chequers Inn,
Rookley on Monday 17th July 2017 at
7.15pm for 7.30pm.
The guest speakers will
be Matthew and Ruth Reading
Matt, is the son of David Reading, a
long-time member of the Isle of Wight FGB Chapter,
has recently married Ruth in Melbourne Australia.
Matt has completed his second year studying at
Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry in
California, which was where he met Ruth in 2015.
He will return to the USA to complete his studies
in September. Ruth works for an organisation
called HOPE City where she is using her experience
as a teacher.

La
Folie is a Baroque Consort founded by
harpsichordist and organist Luke Haydn in the
autumn of 2016. La Folie stems from previous
projects with students in the Chichester
area. It has now branched out and includes many
players from further afield; the aim of the
orchestra is to bring some of the lesser-known
works of the Baroque to a wider audience, and to
show that Baroque …older music…doesn’t mean
boring! With a combination of musicians from
across the South coast and London, La Folie brings
historically-informed performances with a grand
sense of excitement.

PROPHETIC
FOUNDATIONS
True Vine Church in Newport will be hosting a
Prophetic Foundations course from September 26th.
This year we are making it available to the wider
Island Church family.
It will be a fortnightly Tuesday Course with
manuals and workshops. The duration is
approximately 7 months. However, because it's
module based, you can attend the modules that
interest you if you are unable to commit to the
whole series.
The course is free, however manuals and
journals will be needed; this will be at a cost of
£14.
The course is DVD based, with teachings by
Kris Vallotton from Bethel Church, Redding,
California. Kris leads alongside Bill Johnson and
has a credible, established prophetic ministry.
All these teachings are accompanied with manuals
and journals, to help map your prophetic journey,
your relationship with God and to meditate on new
found truths.
Each session will also include 'workshops' so
that you can activate what's been taught and grow
in confidence towards God and others.
This is for beginners and for those who would
like training to move forwards and deeper into the
prophetic gift.... and has already proven to be
helpful and fruitful.
"The chief role of a New Testament
prophet is not to prophesy. Primarily it is to
teach people how to hear the voice of God for
themselves. It is to teach people how to find and
live in the will of God for themselves. It is to
teach people how to move in the prophetic, but
even those things are not the prime gifting of a
prophet. The real ministry of a prophet, I
believe, is to make God radiant, is to tell people
how wonderful, how amazing, how astonishing He is
and to introduce superlatives back into our prayer
language and our witness of who God is."

PROPHECY by Graham

Workshop
to Raise Awareness of Prevent (WRAP) – Train the
Trainer Target Group: Any
delegates interested in delivering WRAP training
in their workplace Course Aims: Prevent
is part of the governments counter terrorism
strategy, the aim of which is to reduce the risk
to the UK of terrorism by stopping people becoming
terrorists in the first place. The programme
has three main aims:
•
Respond to the ideological challenge of terrorism
and the threat we face from those who promote
it •
Prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and
ensure they are given appropriate advice and
support;
and •
Work with sectors and institutions where there are
risks of radicalisation that we need to address
In order to implement this training across the
island we are asking people to attend a one day
train the trainer event which will accredit
delegates to then deliver basic Prevent Awareness
to other staff within their
organisation. Notes: It is important to
remember that Prevent has come direct from the
Home Office, and as such anyone who agrees to
attend the Train-the-Trainer course will then be
responsible for cascading Prevent Awareness to
others in their service areas/organisation, and as
such must have the time available to do so. To
book a place on this course, please use the
Training Catalogue that can be accessed via the
Employee Self Service Portal.

you do not have access to the corporate network
please complete an online application form and

also ask that all delegates complete the online
training module, which can be found here Course

He is provisionally
coming on the weekend of 25/26

include a ministers’/leaders’ breakfast, an open
meeting at Ryde Baptist Church and then worship at
RBC on Sunday morning.
Friday 26th January 2018
with Roy Crowne - Venue yet to be
agreed When we met together this January about
350 of us from across the Island gathered to
worship and benefit from an excellent
speaker. Our prayer is that an even
greater number of us will take these opportunities
once a year to come together as one church on the
Island. Put the date in your diary
now!
More about Roy Crowne Roy
became HOPE Together Executive Director in March
2010 and was previously the National Director of
Youth for Christ in Britain for 12 years. Roy has
written and edited a peer-to-peer evangelistic
training course, called 'The Art of
Connecting'. He was one of the founders of
HOPE 08. HOPE 08 closed its office in 2009, but
since then many churches, denominations and
agencies have endorsed its re-commencement. He is
very excited about Hope going forwards, which will
bring Word and Deed missions to many villages,
towns and cities. He is the most positive and
enthusiastic HOPE visionary you could ever meet.
He will continue his preaching, teaching and
mentoring younger leaders. Roy is married to
Flossie, lives in Rugby and they have two sons,
John and Michael.

Volunteer for
NYAS
•
Do you want to make a difference to a young
person’s
life? • Do
you have 1- 4 hours per month to
spare?
We urgently require more
volunteers, so why not volunteer as a
mentor/befriender for NYAS as an Independent
Visitor for children and young people in
care.
As a volunteer you
will: •
Have fun, take young people on outings and maybe
share a hobby, sport or
interest. •
Offer support and a listening ear and be a
positive influence in a young person’s
life. •
Help build self-esteem and
confidence.
You don’t need any
special qualifications. We are looking for
reliable and dependable people from all walks of
life.We will provide training and on-going
support. We will pay expenses to a set
limit.
Here is what some of our young
people and volunteers have to say about this
rewarding
role: • I
like how my Independent Visitor isn’t anything to
do with social services and is here to support me,
not to
judge. •
They have boosted my confidence. Now I feel
like when I go places I can just relax and have
fun. • My
Young person always looks forward to me coming.
They have had such a disjointed life and I'm a
stable figure in their life. This has to be
important for them as everything else changes
around them a lot.
If you would like
to apply, please visit our website www.nyas.net
